All events are unique experiences. Bringing people together builds up social and economic well-being but also has an impact to our precious planet. The 12mR World Championship is a sustainable event that takes a stand on social, economic and environmental issues. We have created a Sustainability Action Plan, which will enhance social and economic well-being and minimize the carbon footprint of the regatta.
ACTION PLAN
SOCIAL FOCUS:
Equal and Safe Race for Everyone
Covid-19 Policy:

We will take utmost care of health and safety during the race. Our Covid-19 policy follows the rules and regulations issued by the Finnish Government and health authorities. The policy is updated regularly. You can read the latest version here.
EMERGENCY PROTOCOL AND FIRST AID:
NJK has an emergency protocol that we will follow in case of an accident at sea or on land. Also, if you need to see doctor, dentist, visit pharmacist, etc., just contact the NJK Service Desk for assistance.
RACE RULES & REGULATIONS:
Organizing committee is following all the Racing Rules of Sailing to ensure an equal and fair race. You may contact the Race Office for inquiries and clarifications.
ENGAGING LOCAL SAILING COMMUNITY
Large group of volunteers will help us to create a memorable experience and ensure that everything runs smoothly. We have enthusiastic junior sailors, hobby sailors and yacht club members taking care of various duties during the race week. For example, the Baltic Yachts Sustainability Squad is a group of young sailors who are designated to help the teams with all of the practicalities during the races. A Baltic Yachts Squad member has been appointed to each 12mR for the whole week.
ECONOMIC FOCUS:
ENGAGING THE LOCAL ECONOMY THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATION

THE FINNISH EXPERIENCE
We are grateful that so many Finnish companies and organizations are supporting us to make this event happen. It is our pleasure to introduce multiple Finnish brands to you and offer you a taste of local products and services.

We are very happy for the partnership with the organizing club NJK and for the opportunity to be the title sponsor for this unique event. Sail racing represents values that are important for Evli – professionalism, courage, integrity, entrepreneurship and continuous development. Many of our clients are sailing enthusiasts, which is another reason for us to support this very special regatta.”

Baltic Yachts, Keisari Beer, Normet, Red Sky Craft, Roschier, Scandic Hotels and Stanton Chase
PRODUCT & SERVICE SPONSORS:
Brandscape, Delicatessen, Dennis Pizza, Fazer, Finn Spring, Fiskars, Interbrands, Järvikylä Farms, Kruunu Herkku, Lindgren Wharf, Niiniranta/North Sails, NoHo Partners, Otava, Sannan Ruokakassi, Suomen Jäätelö, Town of Helsinki, Veikko Laine and Windlass Creative.
ENVIRONMENT FOCUS:

COMPREHENSIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN
Yacht Club NJK has an extensive waste management and recycling system in place. NJK recycles plastic bottles, beer and soft drink cans, food waste, glass, metal and carton. There is also a collection point for motor oil or broken boat parts, batteries etc.
RECYCLING PLASTIC BOTTLES & LANDFILL WASTE MADE EASY
We highly recommend that each boat separates plastic bottles and landfill waste for recycling and we have made this as simple as possible for you. Each boat will be provided with two rolls of waste bags: Green for bottles, White for the landfill waste. Your appointed Baltic Yachts Squad Member will collect the garbage at the end of each day.
GREEN ENERGY
Yacht Club NJK uses renewable energy, mainly wind, which helps us to reduce the carbon footprint of our event.
CO2 EMISSIONS COMPENSATION
If you are interested in compensating the CO2 emissions generated from your flight, we recommend that you support the Finnish John Nurminen Foundation that works relentlessly to protect the Baltic Sea from eutrophication. Eutrophication is caused by the excessive load of phosphorus and nitrogen on the sea and results in blue-green algae, cloudy water and slimy beaches as well as the de-oxidation of bottom areas.
You can calculate the flight emission here ~ price for CO2 is approximately 0,05 €/kg
TAP WATER

Finland’s tap water is among the best and purest in the world. We can proudly claim that our tap water tastes better than bottled water. Feel free to fill your water bottles and taste the best Finnish water.
WE WANT TO USE & PRODUCE ONLY WHAT IS NEEDED AND NOTHING MORE!
We encourage you to pre-book the social program tickets as early as possible to ensure that the event organizers and caterers can be well prepared in advance. Also, pre-order your official race T-shirts and caps and have everything waiting for you upon arrival.
